The Absalon Book (English edition)
The Absalon Book was released in August 2018 and tells the story of the Absalon community house in Copenhagen.
It is written by psychologist Mette Thingstrup and journalist Lene Grønborg Poulsen, based on their conversations with Absalon’s staff and guests, and the Lajboschitz family, who founded Absalon.
The idea with the book is to share the process and the experience of creating a place like Absalon, with the hope to inspire others who might want to start a similar project.
‘THE BOOK ABOUT ABSALON - a contemporary community house' is available in Danish and English. 159 pages. DKK 100.
From the cover:
"Absalon, also known as the 'extension of your living room', was founded by Lennart and Sus Lajboschitz and inhabits the building that was formerly Absalon Church, in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Absalon's doors first opened to the world in August 2015. Since then, a communal dinner, or 'fællesspisning', has been hosted in the great hall every single day of the year, gathering up to 200 people each time. Lennart and Sus, together with their team, have created a space where you will find everything fro board games, ping pong, dance, film screenings, concerts, parties, dinners and more. Regardless of the activity, the pupose is always the same; to bring people together around a shared activity.
Absalon sprung from a desire to create a place where people could meet and get to know each other. It is a place where the importance of genuine human connection is the central focus."
